Although Bonn was relatively provincial compared with major cities like Berlin and Vienna, Beethoven made some important connections in Bonn that served him well in his later career. Both the Elector Maximilian Franz and Beethoven's early patron Count Waldstein had come to Bonn from Vienna, and through these connections Beethoven quickly found early supporters when he moved to the city in 1792. He also met Haydn in Bonn, where it was first arranged that Beethoven would receive composition lessons from him.
