When the Elector was away and the court musicians were free, Johann would take his son Ludwig and their young boarder Rovantini to the country on invitation from other music lovers. It is thus highly likely that the two young musicians played chamber music together in either public or private concerts during these excursions, though there is no record of them. In his biography, Thayer cites the regions of the Rheinbach and Ahrweiler as places on their itinerary. This part of the "Beethovens on the Rhine" explores some of the areas they likely visited.
