  • Exhibited: The Beethovens on the Rhine (2020). Exhibition text: Bensberg, about 10 miles from Cologne, is the location of an old castle built in the 12th century as well as a grand castle erected between 1710–1716 on the hill indicated on the map. We can only speculate whether young Beethoven performed in this spectacular estate, which was designed with the palace of Versailles in mind.
