Plate 22. View of Lahneck Castle
Color engraving of Lahneck Castle on the Rhine. Lahneck was located in the area governed by the Elector of Mainz. Built in the 13th century, the castle was heavily damaged in 1633 during the Thirty-Years War. The castle ruins inspired Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to write the poem "Geistesgruß."
