Mount of Olives: an oratorio by Beethoven [1814]
Set of manuscript orchestral parts for the oratorio Christus am Ölberge, Op. 85, likely used for the first performances in London as "The Mount of Olives" in 1814 at the Drury Lane theater, directed by Sir George Smart. With signature of George T. Smart on title pages and a label printed with his name pasted to the covers. Each part bound in marble boards with calf spines. A list of parts is handwritten on the inside cover of the part Violino primo No. I: Leader. Lacks vocal parts and parts for serpent and drums. Includes additional parts not listed: violino primo (nos. 6-7), violino secondo (no. 6), viola (no. 4), basses (no. 5), horns 3-4, bassoons 3-4, and soprano trombone.
