Plate 24. View of the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein
Color engraving with a panoramic view of the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein along the Rhine, overlooking Koblenz. Beethoven's mother Maria Magdalena was born at Ehrenbreitstein, opposite the city of Koblenz on the Rhine. Ehrenbreitstein was the seat of the Archbishop-Elector of Trier, and Maria Magdalena's father was overseer of cooking at the electoral palace. The fortress of Ehrenbreitstein stood on top of the hill, and the palace was on the banks of the Rhine below.
