Description
- Description
- Every day was a special day. There was a Better Babies Day and a Certified Boiler Elevator and Pressure Vessel Inspectors Day. One of the more popular events was Matson Day, August 9, 1939, when the steamship company anchored the liner Mariposa in the lagoon. More than 51,000 visitors came that day, hoping to win the grand prize of two round trip tickets to Hawaii. The next day's attendance was a more normal 41,000.
