Description
  • Although the island was to have become an airport, Pan American Airways would be the only carrier to operate from there. Its famed Boeing flying boats became a top fair attraction. Crowds gathered for their weekly departure for Manila and watched them being serviced in their hangar. The Clippers weighed 41 tons, and carried 34 passengers in luxury across the Pacific at a speed of 200 mph.
