Description
- Description
- In 1935, Treasure Island was selected as site for an exposition celebrating opening of San Francisco's two mighty bridges. After the fair closed the island was to have been the City's airport. President Roosevelt approved the idea and the WPA gave $5.5 million of the $19 million needed for construction. Building the fair was a depression era bonanza for San Francisco.
