1X. Corrective Speech (2)
Voice difficulties diagnosed and corrective exercises prescribed. Designed for students whose speech test suggests need for special help. May not count on the speech major or minor.

21. Fundamentals of Speech (3)
Appreciation of what constitutes good speech. Development of expressiveness. Emphasis on attainment of pleasing speech habits.

22. Fundamentals of Interpretation (3)
Techniques, of coordinating effective physical and vocal expression. Continuation of Speech 21. Prerequisite: Speech 21.

23. Oral Reading (24)
Ability to read effectively varied types of literary material. Prerequisite: Speech 21.

24. Fundamentals of Public Speaking (3)
Satisfies general education speech requirement. Communication of ideas by means of the informal talk; persuasiveness; clarity of thinking and grammatical accuracy.

Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Theory, techniques, and experience in intercollegiate debating.

26. Group Discussion (3)
Group investigation of appropriate materials; group discussion techniques; mature and rational approach to problem solving.

33. Elementary Techniques of Acting (3)
Techniques of dramatic presentation. Concentrated laboratory procedure.

Introduction to the technical theater; scene construction, scene painting, property, selection, stage lighting, sound production. Lecture, demonstration; laboratory experience in preparing plays for public performance.

Practical training in play production through articipation in major Playhouse presentations; acting and technical laboratory work.

40. Introduction to Radio and Television Broadcasting (3)
Radio and television as media of mass communication; practice in application of oral and visual techniques to the broadcast situation.

41. Elementary Radio Production (3)
Prerequisite: Speech 40. Director's techniques and tools; microphone setups, sound effects, music, script analysis, casting, control operation, and oral techniques. Lecture. laboratory.

Prerequisite: Engl. 1A. Theatrical history and dramatic literature; major types of drama, analysis of representative examples.

Speech correction in public schools; classification of speech defects and disorders; causes; correctional problems.

151. Phonetics (2)
Study of the speech sounds of American discrimination of phonetic elements and transcription of a variety of speech patterns through use of phonetics.

152. Methods in Correction of Speech Defects (2)
Prerequisites: Speech 150, 151. Development of speech correction methods adapted to speech-handicapped child in public school program; observation of clinical practice; Planning materials for clinical and school use.

153. Stuttering (2)
Prerequisite : Speech 150, 152 or permission of instructor. Causes and therapies in current use; parent-child relationships; therapeutic approaches to improvement of interpersonal relationships and alleviation of stuttering symptom.

154. Speech Pathology (2)
Prerequisite: Speech 152. Causation and therapy procedures for organic speech disorders, including cleft palate, cerebral palsy, aphasia, voice disorders.

155. Clinical Practice in Speech and Hearing Therapy (2)
May be repeated for a total of 4 units. Prerequisite : Speech 152, permission of instructor. Supervised clinical practice in speech and hearing therapy with a variety of speech and hearing problems; diagnosis of speech deficiencies, procedures of referral to other agencies, parent counseling; case records.

Prerequisites: Speech 152, 154. Projects in library research or in experimentation.
