2. Police Organization and Administration (3)
Fundamentals of police organization and administration applied to field operations; records and reports, patrol; traffic; investigation; vice, crime prevention; public relations; police ethics; allied problems.

2F. Field Work in Police Organization and Administration (1)
Maximum total credit 4 units. Open only to criminology majors. Prerequisites: eligibility for Student Police Department; permission of instructor. Field application of principles of police organization and administration.

Open only to criminology majors. Organization and installation of a police record system; types and functions of records; recording procedures.

101. Police Patrol (3)
Open only to criminology majors. Patrol administration; contemporary patrol methods; principles of effective patrol; distribution of the force; the police beat; patrol strategy; tactics; communications systems.

101F. Field Work in Police Patrol (1)
Maximum total credit 4 units. Open only to criminology majors. Prerequisites or concurrently: Crim. 101; eligibility for Student Police Department; permission of instructor. Basic individual experience for interpreting theories of patrol activities and procedures.

The California Penal Code; general principles of criminal law and procedures; classification of crimes; specific offenses; elements of crimes; law of arrest; law of evidence; court testimony.

106. Juvenile Law (2)
Prerequisites: Sociol. 1A-B or permission of instructor. Recommended: Crim. 105. The California juvenile Court Act, The Youth Authority Act, and other laws governing juveniles; rights of juveniles as distinguished from those of adults.

110. Traffic Control and Regulation (2)
Organization and functions of the police traffic division; application of educational, engineering, and enforcement methods; traffic surveys; traffic flow; parking and congestion; accident investigation; elements of a sound traffic program.

115A-B. Criminal Investigation and Identification (3-3)
Open only to criminology majors. Principles and techniques of criminal investigation; police photography in investigation; scientific crime detection methods; criminal identification systems.

120. Crime Prevention and Juvenile Delinquency (3)
Prerequisite: Psych 7 or 10, Soc 1A or equivalent. Organization and function of crime prevention agencies; police techniques in the prevention of delinquency and crime; case work; the policewoman; consolidation of community resources in preventing crime and delinquency.

120F. Field Work in Crime Prevention and Juvenile Delinquency (1-2)
Maximum total credit 2 units. Prerequisites: Crim. 120; permission of instructor. Directed observation and work experience in a crime prevention or allied agency; community resources in prevention., crime and delinquency.

121. Practice in Youth Supervision (2)
Limited enrollment subject to approval of instructor and agency. Open only to criminology majors. Prerequisites: Crim. 120, senior standing. Recommended: Sociol. 120A. Observation and participation in supervision of youth committed to a forestry camp of the California Youth Authority.

Open only to criminology majors. Prerequisite: Psych 7 or 10. Devices for measuring emotional responses to verbal stimuli; psychology and physiology of deception; analysis of detection of deception techniques; laboratory performance investigations; application to police investigations.

Prerequisite: Psych 7 or 10, Soc 1A or equivalent. Crime and criminals from the social and cultural viewpoint; knowledge and practice in the field of criminology.

Prerequisites: Sociol. 1A-B or equivalent. Punishment, prisons, jails and prisoners (adult and juvenile); historical origins of punishment for crime, the criminal law, the prison system; problems of prison administration.

133F. Field Work in Penology (1-4)
Open only to criminology majors who do not have credit in Crim. 115BF. Prerequisites or concurrently: Crim. 133; six units from Crim. 120, 132, 134, 153; or permission of instructor. Practical experience in application of principles, skills, and techniques in institutional treatment of criminals and delinquents.

135. Probation and Parole (3)
Principles and practices in probation and parole.

135F. Field Work in Probation and Parole (1-4)
Maximum total credit 8 units. Prerequisites: Crim. 135; permission of instructor. Directed observation and work, experience in a public probation or parole agency. Record of activities and assignments; periodic progress reports.

153. Psychology of the Criminal (3)
Prerequisite: Psych 7 or 10, Soc 1A or equivalent. Psychological bases of crime; motivation, alcoholism, economic and cultural pressures; forms of crime; criminal careers.

170. Firearms (2)
Open only to criminology majors with permission of instructor. Legal aspects of use of firearms; safety precautions; nomenclature; dry-firing and familiarization firing. Field work required.

180. Training in Public Service (1-2)
Maximum total credit 5 units. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Planned and supervised experience or study in a field of occupational specialization.
