155B. Student Teaching (4 or 8; max total 12)
Prerequisite; S Ed 151, 152, 161 (or concurrent), 155A, senior standing, admission to Single Subject Credential Program, approval of major department or passing of single subject examination. Supervised field experiences and teaching in secondary schools; minimum 120 hours for each 4 units. Scheduled conferences with college supervisor sand public school personnel.

155C. Student Teaching (12)
Not open to students with credit in S Ed 155B. Prerequisite: S Ed 161 (or concurrent), 151, 152, senior standing, admission to Single Subject Credential Program, approval of major department or passing of single subject examination. Supervised field experiences and teaching in secondary schools; minimum 360 hours. Scheduled conferences with college supervisor and public school personnel.

156. The Teaching of Reading (3)
Not open to students with credit in E Ed 156. Prerequisite: admission to the credential program. Designed for candidates for singe subject credentials. The nature of reading; methods and materials for teaching reading skills; provision for individual differences (ethnic, socio-economic, dialectal); theories, programs, and organizations; stimulation of interest improvement in oral reading and phonics. (2 lecture, 2 lab hours)

161. Methods and Materials in Secondary Teaching (3)
Prerequisite: S Ed 152, admission to credential program or teaching experience. A methods course in secondary school subjects. Instructional procedures, techniques, and resources for teaching; appraisal of instructional innovations; classroom organization and management; measurement and evaluative techniques. Some areas have labs. (Former S Ed 161)

164T. Educational Practices (l; max total 3 if no topic repeated)
Prerequisite: S Ed 152 or permission of instructor. Skill-development laboratory in audio-visual equipment, case studies, test construction.

165. Practicum in Tutoring (1-3)
Skills in tutoring individuals and small groups. Study habits, problem solving, writing and test-taking skills. Field work in tutoring. Not applicable for public school credentials.

166. Student Teaching: Secondary (3-12)
Prerequisite: admission to credential program, one-semester residence, S Ed 151, 152; completion of major, S Ed 133 prior to or concurrently with respective student teaching assignments. Supervised observation, participation, and teaching in public schools; minimum of 5) clock hours of actual teaching for each three units of credit. Scheduled conferences with university supervisors and supervising teacher.

167. Teaching Internship (3-12)
Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree, approval of departmental admissions and internship committees, one semester residence, S Ed 166 (3 units), 168 (concurrent), completion of credential major. One-half day teaching under contract for one school year in secondary school or community college, supervised by assigned college and district personnel.

168. Seminar for Interns (2)
Prerequisite: S Ed 167 (concurrent). Curriculum and instructional materials and procedures in secondary teaching with emphasis on internship assignment; educational technology and measurement, evaluation of instruction.

175. Seminar and Practicum in Secondary Teaching (4-6)
Prerequisite: baccalaureate degree (concurrent registration in S Ed 167 required). On-school-site seminar and practicum to train teachers for service in economically depressed areas. Scope and function of secondary schools in American culture, socio-economic factors, educational trends, implications for curriculum and instructional techniques, methods and materials.

176. Seminar and Practicum in Secondary Teaching (4-6)
Prerequisite: S Ed 175 (concurrent registration in S Ed 167 required). On-school-site seminar and practicum for training teachers for service in economically depressed areas. Psychological foundations of educational practice, implications for guidance programs, curriculum and instructional techniques including audio visual and evaluation processes.

Nature of reading; observation and analysis of reading behavior and needs of secondary school pupils; development of reading materials and techniques for specific needs.

253. Secondary School Curriculum Development (3)
Prerequisite: teaching credential or permission of instructor. Seminar on concepts and principles of curriculum planning, evaluation of curriculum programs and processes, assessment and utilization of curriculum resources, and innovations and research in curriculum development. Project required.

258. The Community Junior College (3)
The junior college movement in America, with emphasis upon California; role of community colleges; characteristics of community college students and programs; problems of general and terminal education. Research paper required.

Prerequisite: advancement to candidacy for the master's degree; "B" average on 24 units of the master's program including S Ed 220. Research in solution of educational problems in secondary teaching. Prerequisite: see master's degrees -- thesis requireent. Preparation, completion, and submission of an acceptable thesis for the master's degree.
