Prerequisite: admission to credential program. A study of varied types of
organization and administrative patterns in programs for young children.
Principles of democratic supervision and policies related to purposes and
organization, licensing, equipment, records, financing, parent and community
relations, personnel policies, and Staff development.
156. The Teaching of Reading (3)
Prerequisite: admission to credential program; E Ed 110 (Option 1), concurrent
enrollment). Designed for candidates for multiple subject credential. The
nature of reading; methods and materials for teaching reading skills; provision
for individual differences (ethnic, socio-economic, dialectal); theories,
programs, and organization; stimulation of interest; improvement in oral
reading and phonics.

psychological influences on the young child's learning, the development

A study of classroom environment with a focus on the relationship, attitudes
and actions of teachers, children, parents and staff who interact in a regular

program. Concepts underlying curriculum and development for children eight
years and younger. Teacher's role in planning, implementing, and assessing

Supervised experiences in work with young children and their families in

Prerequisite: teaching credential. Seminar on concepts and principles of
curriculum planning; evaluation of processes and programs; availability
and use of resources; innovations and research in curriculum development.

251. Home, School, Community Resources in Early Childhood (3)
Course content will include exploration at parent-teacher relationships
in individual and group settings, use of differentiated staffing in the
classroom, and investigation of home, school, and community resources.
271. Comparative Cultures in Early Childhood (3)
Ways in which culture affects personality, language and cognitive development.
Similarities and differences in education and socialization in a variety
of cultural settings are studied. Curricula for multicultural education
