depth of basic facts supporting the doctrine of evolution and
genetic mechanisms that explain hereditary change.

comparisons and contrasts with mainstream orthodox theory; contribution

others.

modem technology; dilemmas of power and factors of change inherent
in "the machine" as reflected dramatically in American
literature and folklore.

An examination of 19th and 20th century literature dealing with
the genesis and evolution of the New Hero or Anti-Hero.

Analytic study of the poetry of Goethe, Schiller, Heine, Uhland,
Morike, Eichendorff and others as set to music by Schubert, Schumann,
Wolf, Beethoven, Brahnis, and others. Recital performances.

History (3)
Investigationof eighteenth century cosmopolitan thought, the rise
of nationalism in Europe, the conflict between nationalism and
cosmopolitanism in the nineteenth century, the rise and character
of totalitarian nationalism, the nationalistic revolt of Asia
and Africa against colonialism, and the survival of cosmopolitanism
in the present.
