To the immediate right of this women, a man carries a marching drum with the following written on its side: "28th Ill's Infantry U.S.A. '61 - '65." On left half of the photograph, two men wear calvary hats of Union Army with both hats bearing the emblem of laurels surrounding the acronym "G.A.R." or Grand Army of the Republic. Decoration Day is the former name for Memorial Day.
