Judith Deim Portrait of Steinbeck writing

A photograph of the portrait of John Steinbeck writing, holding pen between the index and middle finger of right hand. This is the only known painting of Steinbeck writing. Upon his return from Mexico, he thought having to sit for a portrait would force him to focus on writing The Sea of Cortez. Ellwood Graham, the artist's husband, worked on his portrait (which is now missing) at the same time in Huckleberry Hill studio.
