Exhibited: The Beethovens on the Rhine. Exhibition text: Gottfried Fischer (1780–1864) was the fifth generation in a family of bakers. He was around ten years younger than Beethoven when they lived in the same house on the Rheingasse as children. In 1838 Gottfried began compiling a memoir of Beethoven’s childhood, based on his and his sister Cäcilia’s reminiscences of living with the Beethovens in the Fischer House.
