Earls Barton Church Tower
Saxon masonry is unusual for the placing of long stones on end, possibly in imitation of timber buildings, but it could also reflect the Romanesque architecture of Italy. In particular, the arrangement of long and flat stones at the corners of the building, and the barrel-shaped columns, are characteristic of Saxon work. The battlemented parapet is later.
