APIDA is an umbrella term for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American descent.'Home Away From Home': Home is a metaphysical feeling constructed by similar ideas, beliefs, and personalities of those people around you. Since the 1950s, the initial APIDA clubs and organizations, Chinese Student Association, Pilipino Cultural Exchange, Hui 'O Hawai'i, and Japanese Student Association have cultivated homes filled with individualized experiences and reclaim cultural identities at a predominantly white institution. Over the decade, APIDA clubs have maintained traditional customs of lion dancing and Lunar New Year celebrations, while expanding the representation of regional identities in new clubs such as Thai Vietnamese Student Association, and Multiracial Student Association. This incited annual events to increase awareness of the range of APIDA presence on Cal Poly's campus at the Lantern Festival and Pilipino Cultural Night through traditional Pilipino dance suites. To accommodate growing intersectional experiences, APIDA clubs continue hosting Ultraman, Friendship Games, and the Tagalog phrase, Isang Bagsak meaning, 'one down', into a ritual of clapping together in unity, if one falls, we all fall together.
