Exhibited: The Beethovens on the Rhine (2020). Exhibition text: The four reliefs on the high pedestal depict female figures as allegories for four music genres: on the front, “Phantasia,” representing plays the harp and rides a sphynx, represent eternity; on the back, “Symphony” holds a lyre, while the four putti surrounding her represent the usual four movements of a symphony; on the left side, a woman playing an organ represents church music; on the right side, the woman holds a lyre and wears a mask to represent dramatic music.
