A Tent City Erected on Campus for the Junior Farm Center Annual Convention in the Mid-1930s [copy negative]
A tent city erected on campus for the Future Farmers of America annual state convention in the mid-1930s. President McPhee was instrumental in establishing California Junior Farm Centers and the Future Farmers of America through the state, giving students the opportunity to apply what they had learned managing their own agricultural projects. In 1931 Cal Poly's Junior Farm Center was replaced by a local chapter of the Future Farmers of America. In 1932 Cal Poly hosted the FFA State convention for the first time. This photo is taken from about the President's House looking north at the quadrangle between the Power House (foreground), Household Arts Building (left) and the ag buildings on the right. Approximately where Dexter Lawn is today. Visible in the distance is the creamery. This photo is also stored in the UA Photo Collection, Folder "Student Orgs -- Future Farmers of America".
