Stourhead House
It made sense to the country gentleman to have a workable house. Colin Campbell (1676-1729) however, demanded more, and his folios of 1715, "Vitruvius Brittannicus," illustrated simple, sensible, houses-as this example, built for a London banker, Henry Hoare. He described them as "Regular Buildings," and selected them for their adherence to Palladian principles. His book, together with James Gibbs' "Book of Architecture" of 1728 were to be extremely influential in both England and America.
