Littlecote Manor

Another advantage of peaceful days was that windows could be lighted and much enlarged to contain glass, which was now being made in sizeable pieces. There was also a return to symmetry of plan, and the formal arrangement of a central entrance flanked by two wings in the shape of an E became established. It has been suggested that this E form may have been out of deference to Elizabeth I, but considering the building dates of this house, that probably is not the case at Littlecote. The house has a nineteenth century addition on the left, with Gothic windows which differ markedly from the typical square, transomed and mullioned windows of the Tudor sections.
