Harlech Castle was captures in 1404 by Owen Glendower, who rebelled against Henry IV and maintained the castle for the next three years in defiance of the Crown. It was again besieged during the Civil War when its constable held out for King Charles I and did not give in until March 1647, the last of the King's castle to be taken by the Parliamentary forces.
