Glenna and kids at Carmel beach, L-R: Melissa, Rae Yuan (daughter of renowned Carmel artist, S.C. Yuan), Deborah Pipes (Glenna's youngest sister), Joel, Glenna. During the summer of 1963, Rollin and his family rented a house in upper Carmel next door to the home of S.C. Yuan and his family. The two artists became friends, painted together and influenced each other. Rollin and Glenna observed Yuan's often temperamental behavior, which contributed to his later suicide. Rollin already had an interest in Chinese art, but after that summer, its influence in his work became much more apparent.
