Gloucester Cathedral

the Gloucester Cathedral nave represents the simplest form of Norman space. The simple circular columns are 30 feet in height and 7 feet in diameter. They support a small arcaded triforium stage and a high clerestory, which was rebuilt when the nave was vaulted in 1242. The plan is entirely basilica in character with an apsidal east end, relying on the rhythm of the piers to lead up to the drama of the crossing and the choir.
