Lick Observatory and the Old Dormitory.

View from the east of the Lick Observatory complex. The Old Dormitory stands atop the hill in the center. The long, steep path known as the chicken-walk leads to the dormitory. Behind the dormitory the main building of the Lick Observatory can be seen, the 36-inch dome on the right and the 12-inch dome to the left. The Lick Observatory building is situated on the summit of Mount Hamilton, 4,029 feet high, in Santa Clara County, California. A narrow paved road leads to the mile-long ridge at the summit.
