Temple of Aphaia at Aegina
Closer view of W façade seen from below Sanctuary terrace wall, view NEBernini designed the deeply expressive Altar of the Holy Sacrament late in his life. Work was begun early in 1673 and essentially completed by late 1674. The chapel, although dominated by Bernini's Altar, also contains other striking works of art and decoration. Pendentives are, according to Frederick Hartt: "an architectural feature having the shape of a spherical triangle, used as a transition from a square groundplan to a circular plan that support a dome. The dome may rest directly on the pendentives or on an intermediate drum."
