Cothay Manor

Behind its gatehouse, Cothay Manor follows the pattern consisting of the entrance, screens passage; high windowed hall on the one side, and the kitchens on the other. However, greater prominence is given to the apartment at the head of the hall, and to the solar above, which now appears as a wing running at right angles to the hall. This increased privacy on the part of the owner affected his relationship with the other occupants of the house, and in the following century led to a clear division, as between master and man.
