Beaumaris Castle
In the later Edward I castles, the gate was further protected by flanking towers, and in the case of Beaumaris, by a seawater moat. The polygonal foundations of the Beaumaris gatehouse were carried up as a circular tower, the changeover being arranged as a corbelled overhang. All of the other towers are circular in plan in a manner that became typical of this intensive period of castlebuliding.
