Public opinion survey on California policy issues
This document presents the results of a public opinion survey on a range of California policy issues. Majorities supported retaining capital punishment (77%), allowing radar for highway patrol (74%), stricter pornography laws (80%), regulating doctors' fees under Medi-Cal (84%), and providing free medical care for poor and sick people (63%). Voters largely opposed lowering penalties for marijuana possession (84% opposed) and lowering the voting age (65% opposed), while opinion was closely divided on abolishing property tax exemptions for churches and nonprofits (50% yes, 49% no). When asked which taxes should be increased if additional revenue were needed, respondents most frequently selected liquor and tobacco taxes (33%) and corporate taxes (30%), with minimal support for raising property taxes (1%).
