Autograph letter signed from August Jaeger, written on the letterhead of Novello, Ewer & Co., London, dated 24 May 1892, to Constance Bache regarding an autograph note written by Beethoven that he enclosed (not included in lot).

- Dear Miss Bache, Can you let us have the translation of these two titles at once? Mr. Alfred wants to advertise the three translations in the M. Times for June which goes to press on Thursday. I am sorry I have to hurry you, but the decision above named was not arrived at until about an hour ago! I enjoyed myself so very much last Friday that I feel I must thank you once more for having so kindly invited me. Will you accept enclosed bit of genuine Beethoven M.S. for your autograph album? I have had it for some time but am always fearing I may lose it, for I have no place where I may keep it safely. I received it from a friend whose mother is a grand niece or some such relation of Schindler. She had a lot of Beethoven relics & when I was a little boy I saw them all & wondered what the good of them was. I hope you will accept it. I know its only value lies in the fact that it is Beethovens lovely handwriting (which is almost as bad as mine). The idea of that ill-mannered, careless and carelessly living Beethoven wanting a book on the Lebensregeln is certainly lovely. I suppose he wrote the "note" when he was "out of sorts" & made up his mind to "turn over a new leaf" & live a regular & carefree life. In haste, yours very truly, A Jaeger.
