Kings Circus
The idea of combining a variety of domestic accommodations under one theatrical faÁade was immediately accepted and the rapid development of Georgian Bath by John Wood and his son proceeded apace with the buildings of the Circus. The Woods knew of the early Roman settlement of Bath, and set out to recreate its supposed Roman splendor. The order of architecture are those of the Coliseum, with superimposed Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian details. Again the planning of houses within the scheme was entirely individual-even to different widths. The Circus is arranged in three equal segments, 318 feet in diameter, with eleven, twelve and ten houses respectively, in each.
