Caernarvon Castle

The walls themselves were also protected at intervals with towers, so as to command all the ground at the foot of the wall both from assault and undermining operations. This great castle at Caernarvon is the first of a whole series of castles and fortified towns which were built by Edward I after his subjugation of the Welsh, from 1285-1325.
