Winchester Cathedral
One of the earliest Anglo-Norman cathedrals, Winchester was largely rebuilt in the fourteenth century; however, some of the original work survives in the south transept. This clearly indicated by the more open jointed masonry of the right hand bays. The central tower, whose abutment pier appears on the left, collapsed in 1107, and the rebuilding work, which was completed in 1120, has the fine jointed ashlars masonry, so essential to structural stability.
