Malmesbury Abbey
The combined traditions of Saxon and Norman are here, reflected in one of the most splendid doorways of the day. The interlocking Norse patternmaking compliments the Romanesque structure, and the figure of Christ in Glory in the tympanum of the arch (which may well be from Byzantine sources) is marvelously enriched. However derived, this English version of an International Romanesque has found its full expression.
