Jane Tolmach for Assembly 36th District

This document is a campaign letter from Jane Tolmach to Jean Mason, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Tri Counties Central Labor Council (Ventura unit), requesting the Council's endorsement, support, and assistance for her candidacy in the 36th Assembly District (Ventura County). Tolmach explains that she is seeking the Assembly seat being vacated by J. K. "Ken" MacDonald. Although she acknowledges that organized labor typically avoids making pre-primary endorsements in contested races, she argues that the current circumstances justify an exception. She states that she is virtually certain to secure the Democratic nomination due to superior campaign organization, strong momentum, broad Democratic and party leader support, and greater name recognition than her primary opponents. She notes that her campaign is already operating as though it were facing the Republican opponent in the general election. The strategy is to achieve a decisive primary victory to discourage Republican funding and involvement in November. She emphasizes that Republicans have long targeted the district but have not succeeded, and her campaign intends to demonstrate that the seat remains out of their reach. Tolmach concludes that early labor endorsement would be critical to this strategy and respectfully asks for consideration and assistance.
