- English translation of letter written at bottom of large sheet, front and back: "By your representation last night of Fidelio, you have opened to me a new world of art, for I had no conception of such as Fidelio, and if Beethoven has not heard you, his Ideal has decidedly never been presented ot him. I congratulate you, that an English audience, in spite of the ignorance of the German language, was so affected, as I believe all the nations of the earth would have been. I could write the whole day upon this subject, but I must attend to my pupils. My wife felt the same enthusiasm as myself, like her weak nerves sank under it, and she fainted. She has still before her, undiminished, the high impression she yesterday entertained. I shall be delighted to see you with us on Sunday, the only day of rest for me, and beg you will allow nothing to prevent your coming. Your most devoted friend, I. Moscheles. 19th May 1832--the glorious triumph of the German opera in London."
