Viroconium
This detail of the forum buildings shows the use of baked clay bricks laid between dressed stone courses. The remains of an arched vault can also be seen in the structure. It is the use of arched structures and the arch which distinguishes Roman building from its predecessors which, like Stonehenge, were an architecture of column and lintel.
