Ennis Friary

One of a pair of carved panels which illustrates the arrest and subsequent triumph of Christ. The figures are shown wearing the dress of ecclesiastic, nobleman, peasant, and Norman knight, at about the time of the conquest. The nobleman stands with a sword in his hand as St. Peter, while soldiers wearing the Norman pointed helmet and the leather hauberk- which was protected with metal chain or plates-and carrying battle axes, makes the arrest. A peasant disciple in woolen jerkin and hose sleeps on.
