Clothes on the line

A migrant shack with clothes hanging on the line from The Grapes of Wrath, vol.2 p.406, illustrated edition, by Thomas Hart Benton, a native of eastern Oklahoma, who was assigned to draw archetypal Oklahomans for 20th Century Fox as the studio believed that would make the casting more accurate. "On Saturday morning the wash tubs were crowded. The women washed dresses, pink ginghams and flowered cotton, and they hung them in the sun and stretched the cloth to smooth it."
