Exeter Cathedral
There is no central tower at Exeter, and the crossing was formed by removal of the inside walls of the Norman towers, which were then lined with arcading. The new piers of Purbeck marble were left unpolished, and were built in course diamond shaped blocks to form a cluster of sixteen attached columns supporting sandstone arches.
