[Protest against Proposition 187]

Students protest in the Cal Poly University Union against Proposition 187, a 1994 ballot initiative to establish a state-run citizenship screening system that would have prohibited undocumented immigrants from having access to various public resources, like public education systems, non-emergency health care, and other services within California. On Thursday, November 3, 1994, a group of about 50 students, community members, and administrators gathered to discuss the issues surrounding the controversial ballot, in a rally which lasted almost an hour. The rally was organized by the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztl?n (MEChA). See the November 4, 1994 issue of the Mustang Daily for more information.
