- BIOGRAHPHICAL NOTE FROM INTERVIEWER: Yolanda Nava was one of the founding members of Comision Femenil Mexicana Nacional (CFM) and served as president from 1974-1975. The only child of a very conservative family, Nava was a good student and actively involved in extra curricular activities in high school. She first attended CSULA before transferring to CSUN for a teaching credential. In 1965, she dropped out of college and moved to New York briefly. Returning to Los Angeles, she attended UCLA, after which she went to work as a Director of United Way. Nava attended the National Issues Conference in Sacramento in 1970 where Comision Femenil Mexicana was formed. This marked the beginning of her activism. She was a player in the establishment of Centro de Ninos and also served as a local television host during this period. Nava served as the president of Comision for one year, 1974-1975.
