Joseph Brown sculpts Steinbeck
Joseph Brown sculpts a clay bust of John Steinbeck in his studio at Princeton. Brown, a former boxer, boxing coach, and professor in the visual arts at Princeton University, met with Steinbeck and did his preliminary work while Steinbeck talked to him. Steinbeck later said that Brown saw things in his phsyiognomy that even he didn't know. Steinbeck also insisted that Brown use clay, because he felt clay represented his earthiness and connection to the land better than marble would.
