The Spreckels sugar factor with sugar beet fields in the foreground and the Gabilan mountains (east side) in the background. Klaus Spreckels brought farming to the area when he invested in irrigation. Both Steinbeck and his father worked at the plant. Original in safe (no copy in photo files)
