Lacock Abbey
At Lacock, the Augustinian priory was dissolved and torn down; only its thirteenth and fifteenth century cloisters survived. All this was to make way for the construction of the new home of Sir William Sharington, treasurer of the Mint at Bristol. There was, however, little out-and-out destruction until later, in the following century, when anti-papist mobs and zealots stripped and robbed church buildings.
