Amphitheater at Caerleon
The amphitheater at Caerleon was built at the end of the 1st century C.E., but by the 3rd century had become ruinous. It was then rebuilt and repaired, with covered entrances and gateways. The tiers of seats accommodated 6,000 men-a complete Legion, which throughout most of Caerleon's 300 years of occupation was the Second Augustan Legion, finally withdrawn in 375 C.E.
