Forgotten Children: Published by The National Mental Health Foundation

This document is booklet containing 24 pages published by National Mental Health Foundation presenting information or what the document describes as a "story" of mentally deficient or retarded children. The purpose of this booklet is to achieve its purpose if you are moved to do your part to give the mentally retarted a better chance through the home, the school, the community, and the institution. The story is titled "Forgotten Children", which is based bout a young boy named Bill who brought lots of problems to their parents in which his behaviors are seen seemed as a stage that he will come around. Bill's siblings all seemed averaged or above average in intelligence but as years passed Bill's academic failure began a concern to the family. This led for parents to sought for resources such as the child welfare agency which immediately referred them to a mental health clinic, in which physicians determined that young Bill is mentally retarted. The booklet shows this short story to explain that people with mentally disabilities can be from any age, sex, religion, race, etc; during this time it was predicted that over a million and a half mentally deficient persons in the United States. It also shares the reality of mental disabilities which families should know that mental state hospitals or schools won't cure their condition, nor make their family member 'normal'.
