  • For this winter trip, Beethoven likely traveled mostly by postal wagon. If he followed the same path as on his second trip in Vienna, he would have left the Rhine at Coblenz and avoided the longer route along the Rhine. Once reaching Frankfurt he almost certainly traveled along the Main River, passing through Aschaffenburg and Würzburg until stopping in Nürnberg. Beethoven stayed here only briefly; the guesthouse where he spent the night is unknown.
